Frequently Asked Questions About SCISD

What kind of services do you provide? SCISD provides interpreting and transliteration services for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind.  We facilitate communication for the deaf/HOH community and have interpreters who are able to provide services for clients at all levels of sign language proficiency.

What hours are you available?  Our regular office hours are 8am – 5pm, however we accept calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergency assignments.

What is the best way to reach SCISD? Please feel free to call, email, or fax to schedule an assignment or for billing questions. We confirm assignments via phone and email, as it is helpful to have written documentation of such important details.

What types of assignments can you interpret? Any and all!  We have more than 60 subcontractors across the state, in addition to some in NC and GA.  Our interpreters are qualified for educational settings, courtrooms, staff meetings, on-the-job settings, government offices, medical offices and hospitals, 1-on-1 meetings, conferences, religious ceremonies, and informal settings such as family reunions.

Are your interpreters certified?  Most of our interpreters have earned national certification, as there is no state-level certification in South Carolina.  We maintain a strong commitment to providing highly qualified interpreters for every occasion, so regardless, be assured that we will send an interpreter who is capable of communicating effectively with you and your client.
